8 gorgeous puppies arrived Saturday morning. Thank you Cypress for a day time delivery that completed in under 6 hours!! It was a flawless delivery that did not require any of the lifesaving skills we have studied so hard to prepare for "just in case". We are always extremely thankful NOT to use that training but also thankful we are prepared. For me personally, the birthing process is a little stressful but an amazing experience to share with Cypress. She trusts me, believes I have her back and I do!!! And Marty has mine......We are a village!

We are so happy to introduce each of these little darlings! Candy (F), Arrow (M), Rose (F), Sweetie (F), Teddy (M), Heart (M), Honey (F) and Cupid (M). All weighed between 13 and 17 ounces so super close. They will be weighed and examined daily for the first two weeks and their growth charted. This first 2 weeks is critical to these little neonates as they are so fragile. Any illness or disruption to their "ecosystem" can be fatal in no time at all!
They will be sequestered with only Cypress (Mom), Marty and me to tend to them. Even sister Magnolia is not allowed to visit the whelping room or leave the property during this time. Hard as it is not show them off, having visitors is just too risky to their health. We not only weigh the puppies and keep a constant check on their physical being but we have to monitor Mom as well. Always on the look out for signs of mastitis, we take her temp daily. She gets a daily butt bath so she isn't bringing any bacteria back to the whelping pen. We chart and document everything every day.
Hand sanitizer or soap and water washed hands required, no shoes and no outside germs allowed!!! We just can't be too careful at this stage of their lives.
The whelping room is a temple created specifically for our litters and their Moms......and us! A little music, easy chair, all cleaning supplies, spare towels, and medicines. We keep the room at 70 degrees for the pups and a heating pad in the box to make sure pups are always warm. At this point, getting Cypress out of the box for meals is optional, obviously she does have to leave occasionally to relieve herself....otherwise, her babies are her world right now. It is such a special connection and she is so dedicated!!
The white PVC pipe around the inside of the box is for safety. They babes are so little and fragile, Mom could easily push up against the wall with a pup behind her and squish it. The railing prevents such a tragedy.
We are big fans of snuggle puppy's (stuffed animal comes with an actual "heart beat" and heat pocket. We start using them at day one in the box and every puppy goes home with one that smells like Mom and siblings to make their transition into your home easier. They are already cuddling up! The buddies are there for comfort and a "babysitter" when I have to change their bedding or Mom goes outside for a potty break!
Our little darlings change by the hour but at the moment, their eyes and ears are sealed so all they can do is smell. Mom even has to stimulate them to eliminate their bodily waste. Fortunately, she cleans it up as well but guess what that does to her poo?
