Successful breeding for Magnolia and Tonka!

We are thrilled to announce a successful breeding between Magnolia and Tonka. There are soooo many layers and steps just to get to this point and everything has to be perfect to achieve success. First both parents have to complete all their health test for good hips, elbows, heart, genetics, renew the eye test (that has to be done every year) AND have a brucellosis test to make sure that is negative prior to breeding. Then we wait for the heat cycle which can be anytime in a 4 month window. We watch and wait and watch and wait.......finally it begins! More watching and waiting with regular progesterone tests until we determine the exact days of ovulation. They won't mate up if its not perfect. Once we hit the correct number we all loaded into the car and headed to visit Hoekema Homestead Goldens Tonka Time who lives 6 hours aways. First visit and they tied in 15 minutes. We were SPOT ON! But we like to do at least 2 so 24 hrs later we put them together again and had no love. Waited overnight and the next day after an hour + of flirting they did successfully tie for the 2nd time. All is as it should be and we are thankful we hit the timing just right.....it doesn't always! A little patience, a 3 day visit to Arlington where we were able to see the grandkids and some friends.....It was a pretty great weekend!

Now for more waiting to confirm pregnancy! It is almost 3 weeks from now before we can do an ultrasound that will show if she is in fact pregnant and a rough estimate of how many puppies. They only way to know for sure how many puppies comes just before delivery with an x-ray.

In the meantime, we will assume all is progressing and treat her like a queen. She can bask in the sun, play in the grass, and chase her tennis ball all in the 1 acre fenced yard where she lives. From this point on we have to keep her sequestered basically from other dogs and areas frequented by other animals to reduce the possibility of her being exposed to things like parvo, coccidia, giardia. Even though the adults in the room are vaccinated and would not be affected by any of these diseases or parasites, it could be deadly to unborn puppies.....and new borns. This means sister Cypress doesn't get to go out either! But they are happy to be together and have lots of beautiful space to let these precious puppies complete the first part of their journey. Anticipated birth is Aug 2nd with puppies ready to go home the 1st week of October. Still so much waiting and unknown but we are patient and hopeful!

We still have 3 reservation spots available so if you or someone you know is interested, don't lolly! Contact me asap; Debi Little 425-503-0453 or royalgoldens801@gmail.com.
