PREPPING FOR BABIES

We are at day 48 of 63 days of gestation. It seems to take so long but then I find myself in the final days of preparation with sooo much to do!!! Magnolia is happily doing her part and growing daily. I have started feeding her a little more, which makes her amazingly happy!! A while back we switched her food to Purina Pro Salmon and Rice and I have to say, I couldn't be happier. She loves it, eats the kibble with a meatball loaded with Turmeric, lions mane mushroom powder, flax seed, carrots, oats, eggs, etc and then some green beans, apple, a probiotic and a scoop of Nu Vet Immune Support. In the past we have switched her to puppy food in the final stages or pregancy and while nursing but we are going to keep her on this adult food. It has a much higher protien level and it's agreeing with her on multiple levels. Just like with humans, what we eat makes a huge difference in our energy, weight control, gut symbiosis and makes what comes out the other end a much more pleasant experience! We are also going to use the Purina Pro puppy lamb and rice when the time comes to get them started on real food. We are huge supporters of Nu Vet immune supplement for the adults and puppies as well.

In the final stages of pregnancy we also implement a more strict sterilization protocol for our home and yard. We don't allow any 4 legged vistiors and no walks around the neighborhood. The entire yard has been sanitzied with Wyziwash which (hopefully) kills any parasites that may have decided to take up resisdence over the winter. We give both adults a good dose of fenbendazole before delivery and continue to dose the adults and the puppies every week to keep them all safe. Any human visitors spray their shoes with F-10 disinfectant before coming on property. It is so easy to track in bugs and spread them. Things that would not bother an adult vaccinated dog can be deadly to the puppies and we don't take chances with them!!! Once the puppies are born, we can't have visitors at all until they are over 5 weeks old and we still follow all the sanitization protocols until they go home.

Normally we are anxiously awaiting heat cycles from our adult girls but since we decided to retire Cypress we scheduled a spay appointment for her and low and behold.....the day before her appointment she sarted her heat cycle almost 2 months early. Needless to say, we had to reschedule and she is once again, wearing diapers. Good ole mother nature, there is just no predicting her! Females start their cycle with bleeding for about a week and then the subsequent 2 weeks ish, they could be fertile. When you DON'T want puppies, she has to stay in lock down. The timing of that is perfect since we are doing that anyway!

She is such a good girl about the process that this morning after going out to do her business, I let her in just a phone call came in and distracted me. She just stood at the door patiently waiting for me to come put her diaper pants on for her! She will still get her spay done but in a month or so.....

I am having sooo much fun at S.T.A.R. puppy class! It's like a Royal Golden school since 5 puppies (from 2 different litters) are attending both puppy and the basic obedience classes that I help teach. Warms my heart on so my levels to help and watch our puppies learning good behavior with their families. I work with 3 classes on Saturdays and 1 Thursday evening and when I come home, all clothes go straight to the wash and me to the shower!

We listen carefully, work hard at being calm, sit, down, come, leave it, walking on the leash and then we play!!!

Just because we are in lock down doesn't mean we don't have fun and continue trainging drills. Perhaps we will learn a new trick this week......stand by for more udates!
