Magnolia started giving me signal that she was ready to deliver 24 hrs ahead of time. She made me hopeful we could deliver in the daylight hours of July 31 but oh no!!! Let's wait until 2:30 am on Aug. 1st! Fortunately, I knew she was close enough that I could not leave her alone so I slept (kind of....) in my lounge chair in the whelping room until she was ready.
Made for a long night but I am super glad I was there! As is often the case with a first time Mom, they are not 100% sure what is happening and what they should do when the baby pops out and she was one of those! I had to help her along to get the whole licking thing going on to so the puppy would breathe and get moving. Didn't take long but boy am I glad I was with her when the first came out! 7 beautiful babes later and she has the process down pat.
Maybe next time I will just sleep through it? NOT!!!! This is a beautiful experience that I am blessed to share with my girls and I wouldn't miss it for the world.
I am so proud of her and happy to present 3 boys: Ash, Fir and Spruce along with their 4 sisters Sequoia, Cedar, Poplar and Willow. There are 3 littles and 4 biggers! All got right to the milk bar and are doing great and in just 2 days have gained 4 oz's!

In general I love our whelping/puppy room but if I have to sleep here, we need to up the game on my chair!

I love this app for tracking the puppy weights my friend Cinnamon Hoekema recommended! I will weigh them every morning (sometimes more) to make sure all is on track! So many tools are available to breeders to keep us organized. I appreciate the overall graphic it gives us of the entire litter. See that 10 oz at birth? They will be more like 15 pounds in 2 months! This time goes all too fast and even though I curse some of the early mornings and too much poop, I treasure every day. We have 7 families adding a cherished member to their lives and I take this responsibility to heart. Our little Forest babes will make us all proud.

Stay tuned for lots of puppy updates and info to come! Writing blogs when you have such great subjects is super fun!
