Two weeks old and thriving!! This is such an amazing process to witness and be a partner with Cypress!
Puppies have gone from weighing about 1 lb (some less), to everyone now weighing over 3 lbs! Cypress is eating great so she is making lots of great milk to get these little valentines started on their life journey. Dog breast milk is a nutritious fluid that provides essential nutrients and antibodies to support the growth and development of the puppies. They 100% rely on Mom in this first two weeks to help them eliminate and provide all nutrition.
Everyone has their eyes and ears open! Not sure how well they see or hear but it will improve everyday! We have completed two weeks of Early Neurological handling and they have responded with amazing calmness. Everyday each puppy gets a rating of mild, moderate or forceful protest to the handling. We hold them upside down, turn over on their backs, touch their paws, cover the face, rub the belly, gently tug and twist the tail. 8 puppies for 14 days and not a single forceful protest and only a few times a moderate. This is the most chill, loving and sweet litter we have seen to date!
This week we administered their first dose of dewormer. We used a syringe with the liquid specifically measured to each pups weight and down the hatch! Mom and Auntie Magnolia get a dose as well
We have also been introducing different smells every day. From lemon, lavender, orange, cinnamon, sardines. Each puppies reaction is recorded as positive, negative or no repsonse.
The fun is just beginning!! They are wobbling on all fours and starting to find their little voices!! It goes from little grunts and groans to full fledged barks!
